Faith No More at Roskilde reviews

July 4, 2009

Positive reviews today in the Swedish and Norwegian press on Faith No More’s Roskilde return. Dagens Nyheter ( focus on the bust-up between Puffy and Jon adding that it was Roddy who added laconically “this is what we do”.
Aftenposten ( may say that FNM were ranked behind Nirvana, Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine in the 90s but the review is positive, saying that they sound more focussed and truer than ever.
No video on YouTube yet and we’ll have a full review round-up, videos and photos on Monday. Bon weekend!

RE: Puffy and Jon, they had a bit of an altercation on stage, no idea what exactly happened (only seen it referred to in 1 review) probably just a bit of shouting – 5 guys living in eachother’s pockets, they’re bound to get a bit tetchy every now and then.

Pics from Roskilde: (bottom half of page, only pics of Mike and Jon)

Puffy threw a drumstick at John during a song. After the song ended there where a little spat, where John (on pattons invitation) called puffy something like “a superstar drummer who got ozzy on his mind”.. Seemed like fun for all involved..

hehe, Patton seems to really find the fact that he plays with Ozzy very entertaining. before one song when I saw them in Sweden he randomly said “this guy plays with Ozzy!” in a cheeky manner and pointed at Puffy 😀

glad to hear it wasn’t anything serious.

    any audio of this show?

This is how the show went:

Set list was pretty much the same as Hurricane Festival, allthough they played Last Cup of Sorrow instead of Cuckoo and I Started a Joke was played in the middle of the set (probably instead of Introduce Yourself) and they ended with We Care alot

The thing with Jon n Bordin was, that he threw a drumstick that ACCIDENTLY hit Jon, it really didn’t look like he ment to.
But Jon seemed REALLY angry and he even started the wrong song, but was stopped by Mike and Roddy. Mike then handed Jon the mic, who then threw a small fit at Bordin, who didn’t really looked like he cared.
Jon came of as bit of a bitch!

OTHERWISE, the show was AMAZING. There was a HUGE crowd (around 45000-50000 i’d say) and the band played with ENORMOUS energy.
Mike limped out during Reunited, but within seconds of THe Real Thing, he was jumping around. He then smashed his cane during Caffeine and threw it in the audience!!.
At the second verse of Evidence, he asked if anyone could sing. He handed some poor camera assistent the mic, who probably didn’t know who FNM were, ’cause he didn’t say a peep and naturally, Mike heckled him. Mike handed the mike down to some other dude, before he tried to throw it into the audience. THe chord, however, got stuck and the mic just hit the front of the stage.
All in all, the band was in full force, even Jon was boobin’ his head all the time and Mike was ALL OVER the stage. They talked between pretty much every song, saying we all looked much prettier then 12 years ago (though FNM last played Roskilde way back in ’93) and all sorts of crowd banter.

The show got RAVE reviews from the press, citing that if all reunions were like FNM’s, the music world would be a better place!! I could not agree more!! I should note, that FNM WERE one of the 8 headliners for Roskilde, but due to them being booked so late, there was only the 5pm slot available

On a side note, Phil Anselmo’s DOWN played after FNM (on a smaller stage) and during their last song, Bordin played the drums and Mike came out and gave Phil a big hug at the end!

    Land of Sunshine
    Surprise! You’re Dead!
    Chinese Arithmetic
    Last Cup of Sorrow
    Ashes to Ashes
    Midlife Crisis
    I Started a Joke
The Gentle Art of Making Enemies
